En Rancagua, el tango, “un lenguaje que se habla con el cuerpo y que comunica sin hablar” tiene también sus adeptos y maestros.

El tango es una danza que se originó en Buenos Aires a fines del siglo XIX, mezcla de bailes y ritmos europeos con africanos. El origen de la palabra tango muy probablemente viene de alguna lengua de África, aunque también se ha asociado a la palabra quechua tambo. Hay que recordar que a mediados del siglo XIX el 40% de la población de Buenos Aires era de origen africano, y un 30% a comienzos del siglo XX, por tanto, su influencia en la cultura argentina es mucho mayor de lo que se podría pensar. Proviene de la milonga, un baile más rápido, con un ritmo sincopado, al igual que muchas danzas africanas.
El tango hizo furor en los años 20 del siglo pasado y, culturalmente, los europeos se apropiaron de él. En los salones de las principales capitales de Europa se estilizó y esa versión es la que hoy se baila en todo el mundo. En Chile, el tango se practica principalmente en Santiago y Valparaíso y ha producido grandes exponentes como Paloma Berrios y Maximiliano Alvarado, quienes fueron campeones mundiales de tango en 2008 en Corea del Sur y luego en 2010.
En Rancagua, tenemos a una pareja de baile formada por los campeones, Daniel Chamorro y Patricia Viveros, quienes se conocieron en 2009 cuando Daniel llegó a trabajar a Santiago.
Patricia se inició en 2010 cuando ingresó a la academia de Paloma y Maximiliano Estudio 1 y luego tomó talleres con diversos maestros en Santiago. Ahí se encontró con Daniel, con quien conformarían una dupla de baile y de enseñanza. Patricia continuó su perfeccionamiento por medio de viajes a Buenos Aires, donde participó en algunos talleres. En 2013 se encontraron nuevamente en una milonga en Santiago y en 2015 decidieron comenzar a dar clases juntos y activar el tango en Rancagua, donde no hay gran cultura tanguera ni mucha difusión, pese a que existe una Asociación de Tango.
Daniel dice haberse iniciado en el tango por casualidad. En 2006 andaba buscando clases de cueca en Quillota y como era cerca del 18 no habían cupos, así es que le ofrecieron clases de tango posdieciocho. Así comenzó con un profesor chileno que vivía en Mendoza, pero daba clases de tango en sus veraneos quillotanos. Daniel tomó clases dos veranos con ese profesor y en 2010, cuando se tuvo que trasladar a Santiago, buscó clases y encontró a Cristián Henríquez, su maestro, que le cambió totalmente la perspectiva de lo que había aprendido en los talleres que había tomado. Si antes su aprendizaje se basó en el modo coreográfico con el nuevo profesor aprendió a bailar sin una coreografía preestablecida. En 2009, Daniel llegó a Rancagua por razones de trabajo y ahí conoció a una amiga de Patricia y comenzaron a ir a bailar al restaurante La Vieja Pared, a la noche de tango los días jueves, donde el mismo dueño ponía los tangos y hacía karaoke. Con Patricia y su amiga en los encuentros de baile conocieron a los milongueros de Rancagua, entre ellos Pepe Reyes y su mujer, tangueros antiguos que dieron clases en una academia en Cáceres y en Villa Triana. De hecho, Daniel tomó algunas clases con ellos, como con muchos profesores en Santiago, incluyendo a Paloma y Maximiliano, por lo que debía viajar de Rancagua a Santiago los fines de semana.
Desde entonces no han parado de hacer clases, tanto en Rancagua como Machalí. Hoy dan clases en una sede de exalumnas del Liceo de Niñas de la población Rubio, en Unión Obrera 630, los días sábados a las 16 horas con todas las medidas sanitarias.
¿Cuánto se demora una persona a bailar bien el tango?
A un hombre le tarda unos 4 años y a una mujer un par. Tanto por la técnica en el abrazo y de manera individual. Pero si a uno lo agarra, no lo suelta más.
¿Siempre has bailado?
No, cuando andaba buscando bailar cueca ya tenía la inquietud. Cuando iba a fiestas, todos bailaban tropical, y no le encontraba la gracia a ese tipo de baile. Cuando llegué al tango pensé que podría aprender otros bailes. Es el baile actual que más ha durado, es el más antiguo. Y es patrimonio de la humanidad.
¿Por qué te gustó el tango? Al principio no me gustó tanto porque era coreografía, después supe que había estilos diferentes, me di cuenta que era un lenguaje que se habla con el cuerpo y que podía comunicarme con una mujer sin hablar. Con el tango me podía comunicar con las mujeres y ahora estoy considerado en Santiago de los buenos bailarines. Me permitió comunicarme sin necesidad de hablar, o de una manera distinta. Y es una sensación especial bailar con una mujer que no habías visto nunca y entenderse en la primera tanda. Mira, hace una semana bailé con una rusa que había llegado a Santiago. Nos entendimos poco en español, pero impecable en el baile. Es un lenguaje universal.
¿No temes que el tango muera con la falta de bailarines más jóvenes?
Ya no, hay mucha juventud en el tango, chicos de 20 que todavía están verdes, pero ya les cuesta menos la técnica. Conocí a una chica que partió a los 16, Anita Ponce. Hay mucha gente entre los 25 y los 40. Desde el 2015 se han organizado las milongas callejeras que han atraído a gente joven. De hecho, yo iba a llevar a mi grupo de alumnos a una milonga callejera, pero en esa misma semana entramos en cuarentena.
¿No se corre mucho riesgo bailando en medio de una pandemia?
Bailando en milongas callejeras, estuvimos parte del año pasado; la gente usaba mascarilla, lo que reduce la posibilidad de contagio y cuando, en septiembre, ya no había más cuarentenas comenzaron milongas, se llenaron y después algunas en Santiago. La clave es con mascarilla, yo bailé con dos que luego dieron positivo y yo no me contagié ni nadie que bailó con ellas.
