Hasta el sector de Monte Lorenzo, en San Vicente de Tagua Tagua, llegaron profesionales y directivos del Instituto de Investigaciones Agropecuarias, INIA e Indap, encabezados por el director nacional de esta última, Santiago Rojas, para reunirse con un grupo de pequeños agricultores de la zona afectados por las inundaciones producidas por la crecida del río Cachapoal, a fines del mes de junio del año en curso.
La actividad principal consistió en una charla sobre recuperación de terrenos afectados, dictada por el especialista en suelo, Dr. Jorge Carrasco, subdirector de Investigación y Desarrollo de la sede regional Rayentué del INIA. Desde una calicata -técnica de prospección para evaluar el tipo de terreno agrícola-, Carrasco entregó valiosa información, que fue recibida con mucha atención por parte de los productores presentes.
“Este tipo de actividades, en terreno, en el campo mismo afectado, son las que estamos mandatados a realizar con nuestros agricultores. INIA es una institución con mucha capacidad de generar conocimiento, y es eso mismo lo que debemos ser capaces de irradiar a nuestras y nuestros agricultores. La alianza que hemos hecho con Indap está dando excelentes frutos, no solo en fichas técnicas con información importante, sino con llegada directa a quienes más lo necesitan”, señaló Carrasco.
A raíz de las inundaciones que afectaron parte importante del interior de la provincia de Cachapoal, tanto Indap como INIA se aliaron para ir rápidamente en ayuda de los damnificados, algunos de los cuales perdieron toda su producción anual. Alejandro Acevedo, agricultor del sector Monte Lorenzo, se refirió a la utilidad de estas charlas “sobre todo para entender los niveles de afectación del suelo, ya sea positiva o negativa. Además, esto permite poder trabajar tranquilo, ya que ahora cuento con la información necesaria para poder sembrar sin la preocupación de tener PH de suelo alto o bajo, por ejemplo”.
En la actividad, los participantes recibieron material escrito, preparado por el propio Carrasco en conjunto con los investigadores del INIA Rayentué Jaime Otárola y Juan Pablo Martínez sobre las limitaciones originadas en suelos agrícolas anegados.
