Cientos de estudiantes del liceo Neandro Schilling, en San Fernando, participaron de la simulación de la elección del próximo 4 de septiembre en el contexto de la iniciativa Voto Estudiantil, que lleva ya años implementándose y que busca promocionar el valor de la participación y la democracia entre estudiantes que no tienen suficiente edad para votar.

El Voto Estudiantil es un programa de práctica electoral dirigido a jóvenes por debajo de la edad de votación, que se desarrolla de manera paralela con los procesos eleccionarios reales. En Canadá, Voto Estudiantil comenzó el 2003 y ha contado con la participación de más de un millón de estudiantes, mientras que en Colombia, su reciente edición, contó con la participación de más de 200.000 estudiantes.
El proyecto brinda a docentes la formación y las herramientas pedagógicas, metodológicas y didácticas necesarias para desplegar la formación ciudadana con sus estudiantes en sus aulas de clase. El programa culmina con una jornada de votación estudiantil al interior de los establecimientos, donde l@s estudiantes votan simbólicamente, imitando el proceso eleccionario real.
En Chile, CIVIX desarrollará Voto Estudiantil de manera paralela al proceso del plebiscito constitucional 2022, usando este trascendental evento político para acercar a l@s jóvenes a la discusión electoral. Las lecciones propuestas contemplarán temas como la historia de la Constitución chilena, las formas de Estado y la influencia de la desinformación en el debate público. También, abordarán los elementos necesarios para analizar el actual texto constitucional, de tal forma que l@s estudiantes se preparen para votar simbólicamente por la aprobación o no de ella.
En el caso del liceo Neandro Schilling, el ensayo del proceso eleccionario se desarrolló el pasado lunes 29 de agosto y en él participaron cientos de estudiantes. He aquí algunas de sus opiniones. Catalina Cáceres y Arumi Rodríguez señalaron lo siguiente: “creemos que es importante, ya que después de tanto tiempo de protestas es muy importante que consideren nuestras opiniones”, “Chile es un país democrático, por lo tanto, es importante que reconozcan nuestras opiniones y votar”.
Al ser consultados por la experiencia del voto estudiantil, señalaron que: “fue importante porque se pudo saber lo que piensan los alumnos del liceo y enseñarles a los de 4° medio cómo tienen que votar, ya que son los que tienen este domingo ese derecho para votar”.
Al preguntárseles por la necesidad de hacer este tipo de eventos, independiente de si hay elecciones generales o no, los alumnos respondieron que: “sí, es muy importante porque nos aclara cómo es un proceso eleccionario”.
El estudiante Tomás Pereira, a su vez, señaló que es importante que: “los jóvenes asistan a votar”. Respecto de la experiencia sucedida en el establecimiento, de simular una elección, señaló que la evaluaría: “con un siete de diez. Considero que es muy necesaria para una juventud y el hecho de estar informado y deberíamos participar”.
