La Mujer de al Lado – 1981
Hay muchos que consideran El Padrino (Francis Coppola, 1972) la mejor película de la historia, lo cual es discutible. El punto es que si en esa película se busca una pizca de ternura, no se encontrará. Balas, conspiración y poder, sí, y una supuesta ideologización de la religión y de la familia. Si quieren pasión, locura y lujuria (pasional a la vena; ni contigo, ni sin ti), se me viene La mujer de al lado (Francois Truffaut, 1981), pero sin garantías de romanticismo.
Hablemos de amor, de ese que marca y duele, aunque es cine y es ficticio, igual conmueve. Imágenes en donde el propósito es reflejar ese sentimiento y sin lujuria. Estas imágenes debieran, previo aviso, ser advertidas al espectador, no vaya a ser que nos dé un patatús.
Antonio y Cleopatra – 1972 
El Árbol de la Vida – 2011
Antes de ir a romances emblemáticos (no me pidan hablar de Antonio y Cleopatra (Charlton Heston, 1972), ¡más respeto!), haré un breve apartado de ese sentimiento filial, que también es amor. Para esa cercanía e intensidad que se siente entre familiares cercanos, les recomiendo El árbol de la vida (Terrence Malick, 2011), una peliculaza, considerada una de las mejores de este siglo y así se va a mantener por mucho tiempo, lo apuesto.
Entremos sin temor a estas escenas no aptas para cardíacos. Un hombre soporta la lluvia, mira una camioneta parecida a la suya, en esta camioneta se encuentra Francesca junto a su marido. Mantenerse bajo el aguacero, mirar y hacer una pequeña mueca de intento de sonreír, un intento de despedirse. Ella, a pesar de los cristales húmedos lo identifica, luego ambas camionetas se ponen en marcha. Ante un semáforo, Francesca gira la manilla de la puerta, con el intento de bajarse y correr donde ese hombre llamado Robert y no lo hace. Luego las camionetas toman rumbos diferentes, la lluvia continúa y ya, “la distancia entre los dos es cada día más grande” y la separación es definitiva…. Chuatas. Los puentes de Madison (Clint Eastwood, 1993).
Si el lector aguantó este chapuzón, aquí otra: Giovanna y Antonio se despiden en una estación, sucede que el tren en estas escenas nunca parte, pero es sólo coincidencia. Antonio de pie tras una ventanilla y Giovanna en el andén, ambos no dejan de mirarse. Mucho silencio como condimento, hasta que los carros empiezan a moverse lentamente y ellos sin dejar de mirarse. Como en el caso anterior entre Francesca y Robert, no sólo es el final de una película, sino que es el fin de una relación: Los girasoles de Rusia (Vittorio de Sica, 1970).
Otro Antonio (Magnano), mira con mucha tristeza el carro que lleva a Bárbara Puglisi, quien fuera su mujer y a quien, por una extraña tradición de Catania (Sicilia, Italia) la pierde, sigue la cinta (ella no está en cinta)*, pero ya sólo para graficar la desgracia y destino de Magnano. El bello Antonio (Mauro Bolognini, 1960).
La historia continúa fuera de la pantalla pues en este rodaje Mastroianni se enamora de la Cardinale. Algunos dicen que lo rechazó por inmaduro o según propia declaración de la diva, por consejo de su familia. En El bello Antonio, hay una frase que Bárbara Puglisi le dice después de un beso “quizás cuantas mujeres conociste en Roma, tienes mala fama” y otra casualidad, porque personaje y actor son de Roma. Coincidencias, verdades y dimes y diretes (como se estila hoy en las relaciones de pareja), lo concreto es que, a pesar de todos los delicados acosos, Claudia Cardinale (Claude Joséphine Rose Cardinale) nunca lo aceptó.
Al final de sus carreras se volvieron a encontrar y Mastroianni le gritó “eres una tonta, yo estaba enamorado de verdad y nunca me has tomado en serio. He sufrido durante años”. Al poco tiempo nuestro Marcello falleció.
¿Podemos desarrollar una actividad junto a la que amamos? Sin duda no debe ser fácil y yo lo sé, pues siendo joven dirigí en una obra de teatro a la mujer que amaba y luego todo terminó. No he encontrado respuestas para esa atroz ruptura, a veces me digo, para tranquilizarme, quizás como director era malo y como amante era peor, otras veces como Marcello, sin ser Marcello, me digo: fue una dolorosa falta de madurez.
