La muerte no tiene traducción (2022), de A.C. Mercado-Harvey, es una obra que disfraza, en la máscara de la simpleza, un entramado de relaciones literarias y humanas que se van presentando y desenvolviendo a medida que avanza la narración.
Haciendo uso de varios formatos como, ciencia ficción, novela policial, novela testimonial e incluso, a veces, tocando la novela rosa, este volumen se pasea por estas formas populares con habilidad sin encasillarse y que, por ende, ello termine siendo una limitación. Por el contrario, el constante salto entre formas mantiene la atención del lector, en tanto cada una de estas desarrolla una temática propia al interior de la obra.
Así, el texto recorre los caminos de vidas cotidianas, del día a día de una mujer moderna como es Ágata, la protagonista, y del mundo que la rodea, sus amigos y conocidos, mientras intenta sobrevivir en una realidad que se presenta frente a ella como una aventura en sí en la que jamás pensó verse envuelta.
Con una narración desarrollada con maestría, los secretos se van revelando paulatinamente, y la obra se zambulle en los momentos más trágicos de nuestra historia como país, creando un contrapunto profundo con las vivencias y recuerdos de una vida en Brasil que ha quedado atrás, pero a la cual se anhela volver. Si bien ambos países comparten los días oscuros de la tragedia política, iluminan la vida de Ágata de manera diversa, enriqueciendo la aventura y las vidas que pueblan este mundo.
De esta manera, este paseo por la vida diaria, aparentemente superficial, se proyecta en un deambular por el tiempo histórico: pasado, presente y futuro coinciden en este relato que se termina por proyectar más allá de sus propias fronteras, en donde la ficción se transforma en el hilo conductor de las vidas que se entrecruzan, revelando los oscuros puntos en común de las desgracias del ser humano, y las pequeñas alegrías que hacen soportable esas desgracias.
Una obra moderna y refrescante para el género negro nacional, que abre nuevas posibilidades en el desarrollo del mismo.
