Una selección fatigada, obligada a realizar una hazaña que más bien parecía un milagro, basada en la habilidad de sus individualidades, con entrenadores inseguros de la capacidad real del conjunto, que ha terminado por volver a ese fútbol de virtuosismo en la media cancha, pero incapaz de llegar al gol.

Lo mejor de este agónico espectáculo lo puso la hinchada que agradeció a su «generación dorada» por la historia de los logros que rompieron, por momentos, la habitual tristeza de un pueblo sometido a múltiples derrotas: en el transporte; en la inseguridad cotidiana; en las jornadas eternas; en la violencia que domina las relaciones personales e institucionales; en la incerteza que los hijos aprendan más en la calle que en la escuela y en la crueldad que domina las relaciones que permiten que a un adolescente lo sometan, otros adolescente como él, a la tortura de sacarle las pestañas.

Este mundo surgió del paso de la dictadura a la «alegría ya viene» y que, como los entrenadores de la Roja, nunca se atrevieron a aventurarse a perder batallas para ganar guerras de justicia social.

Miraba el partido de Brasil con Chile, los nombres de los jugadores brasileños respondían a diminutivos o a la certeza de que hubiera alguien antes que él, como Neymar junior, por ejemplo. Los nuestros respondían a apelativos inventados por mis colegas, los periodistas deportivos, como el rey, el príncipe, el niño maravilla, que hace tiempos cruzó los 30 años, el pitbull, la muestra de fiereza y reciedumbre. Una corte de realeza imaginaria, basada en la esperanza individual que alguno de ellos rompiera la lógica de triunfo de equipos que reemplazan sus astros con jugadores tan eficientes como ellos.

Curiosamente, alcanzaremos triunfos en el deporte cuando seamos capaces de generar un cambio cultural.
