El pasado 24 de diciembre, El Regionalista publicó una entrevista al historiador y Premio Nacional de Historia, Gabriel Salazar, en la que analizó la fórmula definida por el Congreso para un nuevo ciclo de diseño de una nueva constitución la que, en su visión, expresa el deterioro de la política y de la clase política chilena frente a la cual, estima que una alternativa es una intervención del Ejército (ver la entrevista).
El análisis de Salazar ha generado polémica en el mundo de la izquierda, y nuestra entrevista ha sido publicada en distintos medios digitales.
Reproducimos parte de la polémica, en particular una réplica a lo dicho por Salazar del sociólogo Felipe Portales y la dúplica reciente del historiador, ambas publicadas en una red de actuales y antiguos socialistas.

¡Cuidado con las lecturas superficiales de la historia! El Ejército (en connivencia con Alessandri) no solo impuso la extremadamente autoritaria Constitución de 1925 (rechazada por ello por los partidos Radical, Comunista y Conservador; y descalificada como antidemocrática por el ilustre jurista Hans Kelsen en 1926), amenazando a la Comisión de 120 miembros que tenía que aprobarla con un tercer golpe de estado, en caso contrario; sino que en su camino de imposición efectuó un mes antes una de las mayores matanzas obreras de la historia de la humanidad, la que ha sido “convenientemente” ocultada por gran parte de la historiografía chilena: La Coruña. En ella, ¡se cañoneó a hombres, mujeres y niños en diversas oficinas de la pampa salitrera y luego se “palomeó” a los “rotos”! Se calcula en varios miles los masacrados en ella, considerándose junto con la matanza de Santa María de Iquique, una de las mayores matanzas de la historia de la humanidad en tiempos de paz.

Los juicios históricos que anota Felipe Portales en su “comentarios” son históricamente falsos. No fue el Ejército el que impuso la Constitución de 1925, sino Arturo Alessandri Palma, con el apoyo final de todos los partidos políticos de entonces (incluyendo el PC). El Ejército dio el golpe de septiembre de 1924 y de enero de 1925 para que se organizara una libre Asamblea Constituyente. No fue porque sí que los partidos políticos quisieron organizar en 1925 una Guardia Republicana para proteger a Alessandri contra el Ejército, y que Alessandri organizara esa Guardia en 1933 (40.000 hombres armados) contra ese mismo Ejército… Es peligroso dárselas de historiador, sin serlo.
Ruego aclarar este punto. La verdadera historia militar del Ejército necesita ser mejor estudiada.
