Santa Evita, crónica de una obsesión colectiva

En julio de este año fue estrenada Santa Evita. La miniserie tiene siete episodios y se puede ver en las plataformas de streaming Star+ y Disney+. Si quiere una serie entretenida, bien actuada, con contenido histórico y social, se la recomiendo. Si tiene más tiempo, por supuesto que mi sugerencia será leer primero el libro de Eloy Martínez.

El dicho dice que si uno no quiere buscarse problemas es mejor evitar dos temas: política y religión. Con los argentinos lo primero es cierto, pero lo segundo es una media verdad. De lo que no se puede hablar es de fútbol, aunque allá se ha convertido en religión. No hay que olvidar que Maradona tiene su propio culto religioso. Hasta cierto punto, lo mismo ocurre con la política. Si no, no es comprensible que intelectuales de alto nivel tengan que hacer argumentos laberínticos para defender al peronismo y, sobre todo, a Cristina Fernández, quien, al parecer, tiene sus paralelos con Donald Trump: podría matar a alguien y sus seguidores la defenderían igual. Este culto a figuras políticas no es nuevo en la Argentina y parte con Eva Perón, quien tiene una mística y muchos más méritos que la Señora K para estar en el sitial en el que está.

En estas líneas no pretendo hablar de la figura histórica o política de Evita, si no de una serie televisiva de gran calidad como es Santa Evita, basada en la novela homónima (1995) de Tomás Eloy Martínez. La novela del autor argentino cuenta una historia que parece ser 100% ficción, pero, como la ficción siempre supera a la fantasía, es un cuento real con muy pocos elementos ficticios. Eloy Martínez tuvo la genialidad de encontrar una historia poco conocida sobre un personaje venerado en su país, que, además, deja a los militares como unos enajenados. Una historia así no tenía modo de fallar, a menos que hubiese sido contada por una mano con poca pericia. Eloy Martínez, con el oficio de periodista, nos cuenta la historia de una manera magnífica y la serie logra captar eso con creces. Ocurre que, muchas veces, las adaptaciones cinematográficas no funcionan bien porque en dos horas y poco más no se puede condensar una buena narración. Las series televisivas que encontramos hoy en múltiples plataformas no tienen ese problema, porque pueden contar la historia en varios episodios. Esa es una de las gracias que tiene Santa Evita, estrenada en julio de 2022 en la plataforma Star+, Disney+, en América Latina, y en Hulu, en los Estados Unidos.

La serie, como el libro, sigue los acontecimientos del peregrinaje del cuerpo embalsamado de Evita en Argentina y luego en Europa. La producción es de alta calidad, asegurado por la participación de la productora de la mexicana Salma Hayek. Además, la serie hace un uso muy efectivo de archivos históricos con imágenes de Evita. El vestuario y la escenografía también son muy cuidados, lo que agrega valor a una producción que debió transitar por gran parte del siglo XX, ya que recorre la vida de Evita y la del protagonista durante la dictadura militar de los 70, pasando por el gobierno de Perón, su exilio y los años de los militares antes de 1971.

El casting también es un gran acierto. Cuando escuché que Natalia Oreiro, cantante y actriz uruguaya, haría el papel de Evita pensé que era una broma. Después de todo, Oreiro es conocida por una música pop poco original, muy popular en Rusia, y trillados papeles en teleseries como Muñeca Brava. En Evita pasa de muñeca de barrio pobre a muñeca de cera, y hay que reconocer que interpreta muy bien el papel de la primera dama de la Argentina, muerta y viva. Hay un trabajo de voz, de vestuario, maquillaje y peinado que la transforman de modo magistral en Evita Perón. Su interpretación supera con creces a la del musical llevado al teatro por Paloma San Basilio y por Madonna al cine.

El resto del reparto también es brillante, el conocido Darío Grandinetti, que saltó a la fama en Esperando la carroza (1985) en el papel de Cacho, es el encargado de interpretar a Juan Domingo Perón. Grandinetti, quien tiene una dilatada carrera en el cine, la televisión y el teatro, hace una interpretación excelente del personaje. Sin embargo, el que se roba la película es el actor argentino-español Ernesto Alterio, quien interpreta al real capitán Moori-Koenig, obsesionado con el cuerpo de Eva Perón. Alterio, quien tiene una larga carrera en cine y televisión, se destaca por su actuación en la serie. El militar, que conoció a Evita en vida y que luego se obsesiona con su cadáver y lo oculta por casi dos décadas, era un personaje que, interpretado con exageración, iba a resultar una caricatura. Sin embargo, Alterio logra su cometido de presentar la complejidad de su personaje sin dejar atrás el elemento de delirio, muy bien explotado.

La narración, que alterna el pasado de Eva, su vida mientras fue primera dama, su periplo como muerta y el presente del narrador que investiga el caso del cuerpo desaparecido de Evita, está tejida de un modo muy efectivo. Además, la serie sigue el formato policial que ha sido un clásico en Argentina desde los tiempos de Borges. El relato policial permite que el misterio se vaya pelando como una cebolla: desde fuera hacia adentro.

Si bien la serie ha creado controversia en Argentina, como lo hizo la novela en su momento, para quienes no somos argentinos poco importa. Lo que es relevante es una historia real bien contada y a la que se le saca todo el provecho posible en pos de contar un cuento con gran impacto. Uno de los secretos de la buena escritura es crear una ficción que parezca real, pero cuando se cuenta una historia verídica la idea es que parezca ficticia. Eso se logra en Santa Evita, tanto en el libro como en la serie.

La miniserie tiene siete episodios y se puede ver en Chile en las plataformas de streaming Star+ y Disney+. Si quiere un escape televisivo entretenido, bien actuado, con contenido histórico y social, se lo recomiendo. Si tiene más tiempo, por supuesto que mi sugerencia será leer el libro primero. Cual sea el medio, no se pierda de esta historia que tiene de todo: drama, comedia, romance, pero, sobre todo, un descarnado retrato de una obsesión colectiva argentina por la figura de Eva Perón.
