La banda era habitual en eventos en San Antonio, Llolleo y Cartagena. Este sábado 14 de mayo se celebrará su funeral en el Cementerio Metropolitano, en el Faro Panul, a las 13 horas. Cuéntanos sobre Los Lemans, ¿cuál es su legado?
La banda Los Lemans era un grupo de la Nueva Ola, de la época de mi madre y cantaban canciones de otros cantantes, hacían lo que hoy se llama covers. Eran una banda muy popular en San Antonio. Fueron muy activos en los 70, hacían shows en lugares de San Antonio y otras localidades de la Quinta Región. Durante esos años también tenían otra agrupación con mi madre, su prima, que se llamaba Bambi Show y era un grupo familiar y también con amigos. Tocaban en localidades de San Antonio, siempre cantando canciones de la Gloria Benavides, de la Nueva Ola.
Después, el tío se vino a Santiago para estudiar pedagogía, pero el grupo nunca perdió contacto y mantuvo el nombre Los Lemans, aunque no tocaran. Él era muy generoso, muy alegre. Se dedicó a ser profesor y los exalumnos lo lloraron mucho, y estuvieron presentes en los homenajes, tanto en San Antonio como en Santiago.
¿Nos puedes contar cómo recuerdas a tu tío?
Yo siempre tuve contacto con él, pero no lo veía en mucho tiempo. Un día me lo encontré en la Plaza de Armas. Lo abracé y nos reímos juntos, porque él siempre echaba la talla. Él nació en San Antonio, era primo hermano de mi mamá. Era un tío especial. Tengo el recuerdo que cuando se hacía un asado siempre cantaba, y lo hacía con mi mamá. El fallecimiento de mi tío fue inesperado, por infarto. Para la familia ha sido muy difícil, para mi mamá fue terrible. Ella tocaba con él en shows de la universidad. De hecho, ahora último, se le hizo un homenaje en el Paseo Ahumada, el sábado 30 de abril. El 29 fue cremado y este fin de semana lo vamos a enterrar en el Cementerio Metropolitano. La ceremonia está abierta al público, a las 13 horas. Este proceso ha sido largo, las cenizas han estado con los hijos y se enterrarán el sábado 14 de mayo. La idea es que la convocatoria sea grande, porque era bien conocido.
¿Cómo se formó tu tío en la música?
En el colegio y en la universidad. Era profesor de lenguaje y de chico siempre le gustó cantar. Sin tener clases de canto, era de familia trabajadora, sacó su profesión y su voz era natural. Fue un verdadero autodidacta. Trabajó como profesor en Santiago, se casó, separó y tuvo 2 hijos. Uno de ellos es periodista y locutor. Él le montaba los shows y mi tío seguía cantando.
¿Qué significó para ustedes como familia las manifestaciones de cariños tras la muerte de tu tío?
Para mí fue espectacular, cuando vi lo de los globos al cielo, globos con forma de corazón. Fueron muchos alumnos de él, le decían el profe. Ellos mismos armaron este homenaje en el Paseo Ahumada. Los hijos no sabían nada, fue una sorpresa. Él vivía en Avda. La Paz, al lado del J.J. Aguirre. Así que llegaba al centro fácil y cantaba en el Paseo Ahumada; lo hacía por animar a la gente. Durante la pandemia hacía shows por Facebook. Era muy conocido tanto en Santiago como en San Antonio. Lo velaron en el condominio y en una sede. En la noche llegaron más de 200 personas a la sede y no daban abasto. Ojalá el sábado llegue mucha gente de San Antonio y Santiago para despedirlo.

No, no es valorado. De hecho, el día que falleció el tío le dijo a su hijo que se sentía desvalorizado. No en lo económico, porque tenía una buena pensión. El tema del canto, que era lo que disfrutaba, el poder llegar a la televisión no pudo hacerlo. Lo invitaban a restaurantes, a matrimonios, etc. Dejó un legado en sus alumnos, ellos los invitaban a sus fiestas familiares: bautizos, graduaciones y otras festividades familiares. Es un legado muy lindo y significativo.
