Trinidad Segura es una reconocida surfista nacional, ha sido parte de la selección nacional femenina y ha llegado a ser sub campeona nacional de surf; vive en Pichilemu, es la productora del Mundial Femenino de Surf en Punta de Lobos, y dedica su vida en torno al surf, un deporte extremo, en el que las mujeres como Triny están abriendo espacios de representación y participación.
¿A qué edad empezaste a surfear?
Yo empecé a los 13 años, en ese tiempo vivía en Santiago y conocí el surf en Maitencillo, porque iba a la casa de una amiga a veranear. Ahí fue donde vi surfistas y quise probar, aunque aprendí medio mal, porque no había clases de surf. Todos hablaban de Pichilemu, decían que allá estaban las mejores olas; entonces, con dos amigas que aprendieron conmigo, dijimos que íbamos a Maitencillo con la familia de una de ellas y en realidad nos escapamos: ¡lanzadas a la vida, cegadas por el surf! Ahí conocí a Elvis Muñoz, que es uno de los primeros surfistas de Pichilemu, que tiene una escuela de surf en la Puntilla y con él nos metimos adentro a remar, así aprendí y me obsesioné con el surf. Mi mamá vio que yo estaba enamorada de esto y me empezó a acompañar, me hice un grupo de amigas: Carla Fouilloux, Jessica Anderson, Janelle Anderson, teníamos un grupo muy motivado y muy sano para surfear. Dos años después, a los 15 años, me vine a vivir a Pichilemu por el surf con mi mamá y mi hermano, porque yo era chica y no era tan fácil viajar y ya no quería nada con Santiago. Para mí, todo estaba en Pichilemu, todo se dio para que nos cambiáramos y acá encontramos mucho mejor calidad de vida.
¿Es muy difícil enfrentar el mar de Pichilemu?
Sí, es difícil, cuando eres chilena y estás acostumbrada al mar frío y fuerte porque siempre has vivido con un mar así, no queda otra, no has conocido otra cosa, pero cuando vas fuera de Chile te das cuenta que el surf es mucho más amigable. Por eso, hay muchas más mujeres que surfean, el mar es más suave, el agua es calentita; acá no es como para que una niña chica pueda entrar a surfear, son pocos días los que se puede, y en invierno es súper inhóspito. Hay una época en que los niños no surfean en varios días, las playeras no son tan buenas en la orilla, pero, al mismo tiempo, tiene su encanto porque hay menos gente, las olas son buenísimas, más fuertes, te hacen acostumbrarte a un surf más rudo.
¿Cuál es tu relación con las demás surfistas mujeres con las que te ha tocado compartir el mar?
Hay súper buena relación, el surf de mujeres es súper unido, no hay tanta rivalidad, es más solidario y uno se da cuenta en los campeonatos que el ambiente es mucho más amistoso; entre los hombres hay más rivalidad. Igual cada día se ha puesto más competitivo con las generaciones nuevas. En mi tiempo, cuando nosotras competíamos, si había una ola buena y le queda a la otra, uno la alentaba para que la tomara; ahora es mucho más competitivo.
¿Cuál es el nivel del surf femenino chileno a nivel internacional?
Todavía es menor que el masculino, pero sí hay un circuito mundial de mucho nivel, en Chile todavía falta nivel en el surf femenino. Yo creo que es el mar porque limita a que las mujeres se metan al agua, también el hecho de que en Chile tampoco hay una conciencia deportiva como en Brasil, en Perú o en Argentina, donde son mucho más deportivos. Una vez hice un familly home stay en Francia y me quedé con una familia donde el deporte era súper importante, era parte de la rutina; acá cuesta ver a una mamá que sale a surfear.
¿Es el mundo del surf un espacio dominado por los hombres? ¿Cómo ha sido para ti entrar de manera profesional en ese contexto?
Antes, cuando empezamos, sí era más difícil porque no te ayudaban, era algo nuevo y no había ese compañerismo que hay entre las mujeres; los hombres te ignoraban, no había un consejo o un apoyo, un espacio en el mar. Hoy tampoco lo hay, pero hay muchas más mujeres surfeando y es más normal ver a una mujer en el agua, igual siento que en el agua me he ganado el respeto para que no me pasen encima, pero se ha dado por el nivel y manejo que uno demuestra, pero ayuda no. De hecho, te compiten la remada, se cierran, están constantemente compitiendo en el agua con todos los demás, están peleando la ola, y hay que estar a la par, no es que uno quiera ayuda, pero que no te estén peleando todo el tiempo el lugar.
¿Cómo ha sido para ti competir en el surf?
Competir me ayudó mucho a mejorar, a conocer diferentes países, diferentes culturas, me gustaba más todo lo que pasaba alrededor de esa experiencia, más que el espíritu competitivo. Hace un rato que ya no estoy en las competencias, llegué a un punto en el que pensé: o lo dejo todo y me dedico sólo a esto o sigo con mis emprendimientos, que siempre he trabajado de manera paralela. Tengo mi tienda, la productora, unas cabañas, todo ligado al surf. Al final, me gusta todo lo que implica el estilo de vida asociado al surf, no solo competir.
¿Cómo ha sido tu experiencia como productora del Mundial Femenino de Surf y de Sirenas Surf Trip en Chile?
Cuando empecé a hacer el circuito femenino de surf Sirenas Surf Trip quise llevarlo más allá y traer a las amigas que había conocido afuera, en las competencias, porque siempre les hablaba de Pichilemu y de sus olas. Entonces, se creó el Pichilemu Woman’s Pro, un evento internacional que tiene 6 versiones, y que se detuvo con la pandemia. El objetivo es que las chilenas puedan competir y ver el nivel que hay afuera, porque a veces cuesta salir, así surgió este lindo evento, que ojalá podamos seguir produciendo cuando todo esto pase, para así poder potenciar más a las mujeres en el surf. Es una vitrina súper importante para Pichilemu y es muy entretenido.
¿En qué estás ahora?
Estoy con harto trabajo, emprendiendo con mi marca de cosmética natural Awua Salada, además de un pequeño complejo que tengo en Cahuil, Mirador de Cahuil Eco Lodge, un mini hotel boutique que es autosustentable, que tiene dos casas para arrendar, un espacio para yoga, huerta y abejas. Además, estoy criando familia, surfeando mucho más que antes, y esperando que se venga un año más tranquilo, en la pandemia me ha tocado trabajar harto.
¿Esperamos un Campeonato Mundial Femenino pronto en Pichilemu?
Me encantaría, estoy trabajando en un retiro de surf y yoga para mayo en Punta de Lobos, ojalá hacia fin de año hacer un Campeonato Nacional de Surf y esperar las condiciones para el próximo año poder hacer un Campeonato Internacional.
