Los vecinos de la localidad de Lima y alrededores de Chépica debieron recluirse en sus cuatro paredes entre mosquiteras, insecticidas y aromatizantes por los malos olores y proliferación de moscas que derivan de la operación de la criadora de cerdos Coexca.

La vida apacible y distendida de zonas rurales, se ve interrumpida, en muchas ocasiones por acciones ilegales de empresas inescrupulosas que provocan malestar en las comunidades. Tal es el caso de los vecinos de Lima y alrededores de la comuna de Chépica, al interior del Valle de Colchagua.
Hace cinco años, y sobre todo en los últimos dos, los vecinos de esos sectores no pueden disfrutar tranquilos de un rico asado o una comida al aire libre y han tenido que recluirse en sus cuatro paredes entre mosquiteras, insecticidas y aromatizantes.
Y es que la empresa Coexca, que se dedica a la crianza de cerdos, ha incurrido en constantes malas prácticas en su faena (tratamiento de purines, manejo de fosas de mortalidad, tránsito indebido de camiones por las calles de la localidad), que provocan malos olores, focos de proliferación de moscas y contaminación de las aguas del estero Lima, lo que impacta a la comunidad con problemas sanitarios graves tanto en niños como en adultos mayores.
Luego de una larga lucha dada por los vecinos y autoridades y a pesar de la extraña y extrema diferencia entre informes entregados desde la oficina de la seremi de Salud de Santa Cruz, que encuentra todo en orden, y la superintendencia del Medio Ambiente regional, que da cuenta de los focos de proliferación de vectores que requieren control sanitario, se han logrado algunas resoluciones favorables para la comunidad, como la prohibición de funcionamiento, de parte de la seremi de Salud, y una orden de no innovar emanada de tribunales.
Son varias instituciones y personas que han apoyado a la comunidad, partiendo por la Municipalidad de Chépica, las agrupaciones medioambientales MODESA y ARAO (Asociación Regional de Ambientalistas de O’Higgins) y, recientemente, el Instituto Nacional de Derechos Humanos, que incluirá este caso en el mapa nacional de conflictos medioambientales.
Aún así, el temor de la población se mantiene vigente, debido a que el movimiento y malas prácticas en el interior de la empresa no se han detenido.
El miedo de que las medidas paliativas aplicadas por Coexca no sean eficaces y que la apelación de la misma ante el fallo del tribunal sea aceptada, tiene a los vecinos en estado de alerta y con la imperiosa necesidad de que todos los actores sociales, autoridades, movimientos ecológicos y la ciudadanía en general, apoye a esta pequeña localidad para que, al fin, sus habitantes puedan tener una vida saludable y digna.
