Para ello, la organización instituyó los premios globales Women in Tech, que buscan acortar la brecha de género en el área de la tecnología.

Este año, la chilena Marcela Ruiz Aguilar ha sido nominada al galardón. Bióloga marina valdiviana, magister en Gestión Estratégica y Evaluación de Proyectos, es directora ejecutiva y co-fundadora de la empresa de base científica y tecnológica Acústica Marina. La empresa se dedica a la solución de problemas que ocurren en mares y océanos a través del desarrollo de hardware y softwares hidroacústicos impulsados por inteligencia artificial. El año pasado, Marcela Ruiz ya recibió el premio de Tech Entrepreneur de los Women that Build Awards, y junto a Acústica Marina obtuvieron el primer puesto en el Desafío Avante, encuentro de innovación organizado por la Armada chilena.

¿Cuándo supo que fue nominada a los premios Women in Tech 2023?

Hace aproximadamente un poco más de una semana, un día viernes me llegó un correo electrónico de parte de la organización, diciéndome que estaba nominada a la categoría y que estaba invitada a la premiación del 29 de agosto en el Museo de Arte de Lima (Perú).

¿En qué categoría fue nominada?

Fui nominada en la categoría “Most Disruptive Award” (Más disruptiva) de los premios Women in Tech 2023 junto a cuatro mujeres más de Latinoamérica. Así que somos cinco finalistas en esa categoría. Además, hay otras categorías más dentro de este concurso.

¿Cuáles son los próximos eventos y fechas que determinarán a las ganadoras?

Las categorías se abordan por continente, en el caso de Latinoamérica se hace el 29 de agosto en Perú y después en noviembre viene la final mundial que es en Dubai, donde esperamos estar presentes.

¿Quiénes elegirán a la ganadora en esta fase y en las siguientes?

El jurado internacional es de primer nivel, recién esta semana se comenzaron a publicar sus perfiles, y trabajan desde distintas partes del mundo en primera línea de la ciencia y tecnología a nivel mundial.

¿Cuándo y cómo partió Acústica Marina?

Acústica Marina nace el año 2020 en la ciudad de Valdivia. Partimos con un grupo de amigos de distintas profesiones, super transdisciplinario: ingenieros acústicos, ingenieros matemáticos, civiles, y biólogos marinos como yo. Partimos con la idea de desarrollar hardware y software para medir y monitorear el ruido submarino en mares y océanos, y así dedicarnos a dar respuestas a algunas problemáticas como la pesca ilegal, actividades ilícitas y también las colisiones entre cetáceos y barcos.

¿Cuáles son los proyectos de Acústica Marina actualmente?

Actualmente tenemos un proyecto super emblemático de las costas de Chile, que es el primer proyecto que tiene cuatro boyas hidroacústicas funcionando 100% operativas. En este momento, es el único en Chile y en Latinoamérica de estas características que está operativo. Además de ser el de vanguardia y el primero en la actividad minero-portuario a nivel mundial. Es un proyecto que estamos liderando en alianza con la Compañía Minera del Pacífico y en forma paralela estamos desarrollando un proyecto para Colombia, y además estamos trabajando en un convenio internacional con la Universidad Marítima Internacional de Panamá… También estamos ingresando a Perú con nuestras soluciones tecnológicas.
