Congreso Tecnológico Indígena: la universidad se abre al saber ancestral

En tres días, durante la segunda semana de octubre, estudiantes, académicos y profesionales mostraron sus experiencias y visiones sobre el conocimiento de los pueblos indígenas durante la segunda versión del Congreso Tecnológico Indígena, realizado en la Facultad de Ingeniería de la Universidad de Chile.

El conocimiento científico no se opone a los saberes ancestrales. Pero el quehacer de l@s profesionales educad@s en las universidades no siempre respeta los conocimientos de los pueblos originarios ni se adecua a las necesidades de las comunidades indígenas.

Apuntando a esos criterios, la Dirección de Diversidad de la Facultad de Ingeniería de la Universidad de Chile, a través de su programa de Pueblos Indígenas, está realizando diversas acciones: investigaciones de sus alumn@s en comunidades indígenas, actividad docente en lenguas originarias y un Congreso Tecnológico Indígena, cuya segunda versión se realizó entre el 11 y el 14 pasado, en el campus de Beauchef de la Chile.

La convicción que hay tras estas iniciativas es novedosa por quien la pone en práctica: una universidad que sea el epicentro del conocimiento científico occidental, instancia que tradicionalmente ha tratado el conocimiento de los pueblos originarios como pre-moderno. Supersticiones de pueblos bárbaros, se decía hasta comienzos del siglo pasado.

El hecho es que el segundo Congreso Tecnológico Indígena reunió en tres días a autoridades, académic@s, antropólog@s e historiador@s. Pero también a alumn@s de la facultad, que expusieron sobre estudios y experiencias prácticas que realizaron en comunidades indígenas en torno a metodologías de sistemas de cultivo vegetal, computación para el aprendizaje de mapuzungún, estudios en el lago Budi, Internet de las cosas aplicado a cultivos ancestrales, aeroponía en una comunidad mapuche o restauración de construcciones en adobe en una comunidad aimara.

En el Congreso hubo también reflexión sobre educación intercultural, la necesidad de descolonizar la formación de l@s ingenier@s, los secretos y saberes del fogón mapuche o la incorporación de los derechos indígenas en la sociedad hoy.

En la voz de la académica Doris Sáez Hueichapan, del equipo del programa de Pueblos Indígenas, este conjunto de iniciativas responde a la necesidad de una formación integral de l@s futur@s ingenier@s, que vaya más allá de los paradigmas tradicionales de la educación moderna y que l@s prepare para construir respuestas adecuadas a las necesidades, en conjunto con las comunidades.

Se trata, explicó la académica, de asumir un desafío que aún es novedad en la universidad en Chile, pero que es un camino por el que deben transitar las instituciones de educación superior: asumir la interculturalidad como fuente del saber y superar el paradigma del conocimiento científico occidental como único sustento de la formación.

Es un desafío que también pone foco en la periferia pues convoca a que l@s jóvenes profesionales se atrevan a innovar desde los territorios, en diálogo con las comunidades y contribuyendo con soluciones adecuadas a sus realidades. Porque, dice con convicción la profesora Sáez, la innovación tiene sitio en los territorios y no solo en las ciudades.
