En un clásico chileno, en julio de 1962 el director del liceo Neandro Schilling de San Fernando pidió a El Mercurio fotos del Mundial de Fútbol que había finalizado en Santiago solo veinte días antes con el propósito de hacer una exposición en el colegio. La exposición se hizo, las fotos… nunca fueron devueltas y ahora reaparecieron.

Apenas habían pasado veinte días desde el término del Mundial del 62 realizado en nuestro país, cuando el 7 de julio de 1962, Osvaldo Castillo, por entonces rector del liceo de hombres de San Fernando, hoy Neandro Schilling, le escribió al subgerente administrativo de El Mercurio.
Su idea era presentar una exposición de fotografías del mundial en la centenaria mansión para socializar la fiesta deportiva entre los estudiantes y público de la capital colchagüina.
Debemos recordar que, tal cual como está señalado en el libro Rancagua la sede (im) posible del mundial del 62, que San Fernando no estuvo entre las sedes habilitadas para el desarrollo del evento deportivo. Tal cual como nos lo relata María Victoria Tapia en ese texto, se consiguió como gran cosa habilitar un tren automotor Santiago-Rancagua-San Fernando para que los colchagüinos interesados en asistir a la gesta deportiva pudieran trasladarse a algunas de las dos subsedes más próximas.
Lorenzo Gomis, de jefe Sección Fotografía del periódico capitalino envió 21 fotos y en su carta al director del liceo, le pidió que una vez concluida la exposición “nos las remitan a la sección Fotografía para nuestro archivo”.
Las 21 fotografías nunca volvieron al decano pero es que tampoco nunca más se supo de ellas.
Y no hace mucho, en el inmenso archivo del centenario liceo fueron encontradas de manera accidental por un equipo de docentes del establecimiento, entre los cuales está Gonzalo Órdenes, docente de historia y colaborador de El Regionalista.
Las imágenes, hoy custodiadas, serán parte de una nueva exposición con las fotografías de distintos espacios y subsedes del mundial entre las cuales estarán las de subsedes de Santiago, Viña del Mar y Rancagua.
El Regionalista, en exclusiva presenta una muestra de las históricas imágenes que llegaron a San Fernando con la promesa de devolución, una promesa a la chilena que nunca se cumplió.
