El joven discapacitado Mauricio Rojas, desparecido hace dos semanas en Graneros, había sufrido una golpiza en la vía pública en abril pasado. Ello nos revela que todavía hay quienes miran la discapacidad con el afán de denigrar al otro; son gente que lo vio con desprecio, como alguien sin ningún valor, un ser débil en el cual podían descargar rabia, maldad y perversidad.

El pasado 31 de mayo desapareció en Graneros, en nuestra región, el joven discapacitado Mauricio Rojas Peñailillo de 24 años. Este es un tema que me toca muy de cerca ya que tengo un hijo con TEA (Trastorno del Espectro Autista) de una edad similar. Graneros es una comuna rural, bastante tranquila y un hecho de este tipo no ha pasado inadvertido para la comunidad. Lo que llama la atención de este caso es que los padres han declarado que el muchacho sufrió una brutal golpiza previo a su desaparición, lo que habría provocado un severo daño en este chico, quien tiene una discapacidad cognitiva y visual.
Mauricio lleva 14 días desaparecido, lo cual no es muy alentador en términos de encontrarlo con vida. La pregunta que yo me hago y que, con certeza, otros se harán es: ¿qué mente enferma golpea a una persona con discapacidad? Mucho se habla hoy en día del aumento de la violencia en Chile. Sin embargo, este caso, ocurrido en nuestra región de O´Higgins, tiene una connotación mucho más grave. Nada justifica la violencia, pero la violencia contra una persona inocente y desprotegida, como es el caso de un discapacitado, es de una crueldad que supera los límites tolerables.
¿Qué daño le hace una persona discapacitada a otro? Ninguno, todo lo contrario, son personas que en general no tienen la misma sociabilidad y no se involucran en conflictos como otras personas con una comunicación y socialización más “normal”. Mucho se habla de la inclusión y, con una flamante ley que implica que las empresas tienen que contratar personas con discapacidad, nos sentimos una sociedad muy progre. Eso no tiene ningún significado si despreciamos a personas con capacidades diferentes al punto de golpearlas. Esto no es nuevo en Chile, no olvidemos el caso Zamudio y muchos otros. En este país tenemos poca tolerancia con quien es diferente, por la razón que sea.
Nunca voy a olvidar cuando mi hijo tenía poco más de dos años y tuvo una pataleta en pleno pasaje Rex. Una señora llamó a los carabineros por maltrato, seguramente. Por fortuna, me di cuenta y salí de allí antes de la llegada de los uniformados. En los años 90, había muy poca conciencia sobre los TEA y había gente capaz de hacer una brutalidad así. Meterse en la vida ajena es otro vicio de nuestra sociedad que no tolera la diferencia.
Volvamos al caso de Mauricio. Según han declarado sus padres era un joven que había logrado una cierta autonomía, tenía su propio celular, se bañaba y vestía solo. Sin embargo, después de la golpiza que recibió en abril todo eso cambió. El daño físico y psicológico que se le hace a cualquier ser humano es traumático, pero en una persona que ve el mundo de otro modo es mucho peor.
Se dice que la ignorancia es la madre de todos los males. La educación es una parte muy importante a la hora de cambiar mentalidades, pero no es todo. La maldad existe y este es un caso de la más clara y evidente perversidad. Golpear a una persona que no le hace daño a nadie, a un ser indefenso, que no entiende de maldad es el acto más repugnante que se puede cometer.
Como sociedad somos responsables por las personas con capacidades diferentes. Debemos prestarles ayuda, apoyo, brindarles oportunidades que les permitan desarrollarse en la sociedad como cualquier otro ciudadano. Los chilenos nos hicimos muy buena fama de ser solidarios por la Teletón. Sin embargo, es una campaña que victimiza la discapacidad, que apela al sentimiento de pena. En mi opinión, eso no es positivo. A mí no me interesa que nadie me mire a mí o a mi hijo con lástima, porque es un sentimiento ofensivo y denigrante. Me interesa mucho más que este país avance en el derecho de las personas con capacidades diferentes, que haya integración e inclusión reales; no caridad.
El caso de Mauricio nos revela que todavía hay quienes miran la discapacidad como algo para discriminar, con el afán de denigrar al otro. Las personas que golpearon a Mauricio son gente que lo vio con desprecio, como alguien sin ningún valor, un ser débil en el cual podían descargar rabia, maldad y perversidad.
El hecho de que este joven granerino lleve casi dos semanas desaparecido sin mayor repercusión en los medios locales ni nacionales, además, nos revela la poca importancia que le damos como sociedad a las personas con capacidades diferentes. Siguen siendo invisibles, sin importancia. Si el joven desaparecido fuera un niño rico de Las Condes o Vitacura, ¿no estarían los noticiarios enfocados en el caso 24/7? Eso fue precisamente lo que ocurrió con el caso Anfruns en los 80, un niñito rubio de familia del barrio alto tuvo paralizado a un país, hasta con campaña televisiva de Don Francisco. Lo absurdo y contradictorio era que en esos años desaparecía gente a diestra y siniestra, pero eso no aparecía en la tele ni en los medios controlados por la dictadura. Hoy no existe esa realidad, pero el clasismo y el centralismo prevalecen. Mauricio es discapacitado, de provincia y de familia sin apellido o ABC 1. Su padre lo declaró así, pidiendo ayuda de las autoridades.
Hasta ahora, la Fiscalía ha hecho su trabajo, también las policías y el mismo gobernador Pablo Silva, según declara el alcalde Claudio Segovia, pero los medios regionales y nacionales poca importancia le han dado al caso. Como medio regional, hacemos un llamado a quien tenga cualquier información se comunique con los padres o las autoridades, al +56972128628. Mauricio fue visto por última vez en el sector de Los Regidores en Graneros, vestía un pantalón y un polerón plomo.
No puedo imaginar la angustia de los padres. Para mí, una situación así es la peor pesadilla que un padre puede pasar. Y para quienes tenemos hijos con capacidades diferentes es aún más difícil, porque sabemos la indefensión en la que se encuentra nuestra prole.
Es de esperar que Mauricio aparezca pronto y con vida, pero también es de esperar que la justicia encuentre y condene a quienes lo golpearon impunemente en plena vía pública. Este tipo de hechos no pueden ser tolerados por nuestra sociedad, bajo ningún punto de vista o circunstancia. La maldad jamás debe ser ni tolerada ni aceptada.
