El clásico estudiantil de la Industrial versus el Liceo de Hombres

El Liceo de Hombres y la Escuela Industrial de San Fernando protagonizaron hasta 1979 y, durante tres décadas, una animada disputa en el estadio que, al calor del balón de fútbol y de una representación, alegró a l@s sanfernandin@s y contribuyó a un sentido de comunidad.

En los recuerdos de muchos sanfernandinos están los memorables encuentros entre la Escuela Industrial y el Liceo de Hombres, que se disputaron desde 1949 a 1979, celebrados durante el mes de noviembre, en el marco de los festejos de la Fiesta de la Primavera. Fue el evento más masivo de la época. Cada recinto educacional comenzaba a prepararse varias semanas antes: por un lado, los respectivos equipos de fútbol comenzaban con estrictos entrenamientos, los que terminaban en una semana de concentración en los refugios precordilleranos de cada establecimiento, en el sector de Las Peñas. Mientras tanto, sus compañeros preparaban y ensayaban el espectáculo que presentarían al público, dando un tono social y humorístico en las denominadas copuchas.

El diario La Región guardó testimonio de esta tradición, con sus crónicas de semanas antes del encuentro y los posteriores análisis. Ya, en 1953, la actividad se realizó en lo que se llamó  la “fiesta de los estudiantes”, entre el 6 y 8 de noviembre, la que finalizaba con el “Gran clásico estudiantil”. En aquel año, se logró un récord de público, alcanzando los cinco mil asistentes en: “el espectáculo deportivo que acapara toda la atención de la provincia, hasta aquellos más profanos al deporte. Sin lugar a dudas, estos clásicos representan lo más extraordinario en espectáculos que se realiza en nuestra ciudad, como así lo ha demostrado el público que asiste en masa, batiendo todos los récords de asistencia”. En esa versión, el espectáculo se nutrió con la representación del Quijote de la Mancha, protagonizada por los estudiantes de la Industrial, dirigidos por Pepe Ferrari, siendo luego el turno de la copucha del Liceo. El esperado encuentro de fútbol terminó con el triunfo del Liceo sobre el Industrial por 3 a 1.

La afición no perdía la oportunidad de asistir a dicho evento, a pesar de las condiciones atmosféricas adversas, como fue en 1958, desarrollado bajo una lluvia torrencial: “No obstante, el entusiasta espectador desafiando las inclemencias del tiempo se hizo presente colmando totalmente las aposentadurías. Mientras arreciaba la lluvia, los conjuntos de exalumnos ocuparon el field, ejecutando un partido atractivo en el que hicieron prevalecer sus mejores predisposiciones futbolísticas los egresados del Liceo, que consiguieron estructurar un cómodo 4 a 1”. En aquel año de 1958, la denominada copucha del Industrial presentó “La isla del tesoro” que fue dirigida por José Ferrari. Mientras que el Liceo representó escenas bíblicas de Adán y Eva, acompañada del humor del Negro Jiménez. El puntapié inicial del partido fue dado por la Reina de la Primavera. El desarrollo del partido favoreció al equipo del Liceo de Hombres, quienes se impusieron por un elocuente 4 a 1.  Al siguiente año, por fin los Industriales lograron imponerse en fútbol frente al Liceo, con goles de Carlos Saldaña y Rolando Cortes.

O se triunfaba en la cancha o en la representación

Durante la década de los 60, los clásicos fueron dominados absolutamente por el Liceo, pero será fuera de la cancha, en los shows previos, donde los estudiantes del Industrial destacaban.

El 1 de diciembre de 1964, el diario La Región escribía: “Los efectos emocionales más encontrados, como lo son hacer reír y llorar a un numeroso público, fueron logrados ampliamente en la Copucha de la Escuela Industrial, sin exagerar en lo más mínimo, el que no estaba llorando tenía un nudo en la garganta cuando finalizó la presentación con ese mensaje de tan hondo contenido humano y social en la escena navideña, como así también el público exhibió su mejor risa con las hilarantes escenas del Pepe y sus formidables tallas del más refinado humor sin entrar en lo picaresco. La Copucha Industrial fue bastante buena, la secuencia de escenas, el movimiento de personajes y efectos sensacionalistas, como la llegada del helicóptero de la Fuerza Aérea Chilena, causaron una formidable impresión, que desde luego el público supo premiar con cerradas ovaciones”.

También existieron años en que el clásico terminaba con un ajustado empate en la cancha de fútbol. Fue en 1965 donde igualaron a un gol, pero los comentarios publicados resaltaban un gran partido, quizás uno de los mejores vividos en años: “En verdad, el empate se justifica, ya que en el primer tiempo dominó más el Liceo, gracias al buen trabajo de Tobar y Pinochet que llevaban el peso en el accionar del cuadro liceano. Por su parte, la Industrial, hizo lo suyo el segundo período, en que, con un poco más de suerte, pudo incluso anotar un gol, cuando un tiro de Caroca reboto en el travesaño, ante el cual, el buen arquero Finschi nada tenía, ya que hacer”. En aquel año, la denominada Copucha fue realizada en una hora y media por los industriales, quienes representaron la sufrida vida de un maestro rural, mientras que el Liceo se esforzó en representar un musical, quienes fueron ayudados por el Liceo de Niñas. De manera paralela, los estudiantes del Industrial eran acompañados por la ayuda de las estudiantes de la Escuela Técnica: “El público supo comprender el esfuerzo de los muchachos industriales, con sonoros y prolongados aplausos a los 4 corredores, que frente a la tribuna oficial recibieron bonitos y significativos ramos de flores de parte de cuatro simpáticas alumnas de la Escuela Técnica, que en los clásicos participan al lado de sus compañeros de la Escuela Industrial”

Desde semanas antes del encuentro artístico deportivo, la prensa local anunciaba los detalles, muchas veces generando polémicas. En 1967, se anunciaba el apoyo del Liceo de Niñas al Industrial generando controversia local, la que luego fue rectificada. Luego de varios años sin triunfos, en 1968 se impone el Industrial con un gol en el minuto 32, con anotación de Eugenio Palma, ante tres mil espectadores. La Región comentaba: “La Escuela Industrial ganó el cotejo por su inteligente labor de medio campo y por la voluntad y decisión con que sus defensores buscaron la victoria que le era esquiva desde hace tantos años. También influyó en la mejoría de la Escuela Industrial, el atinado cambio que ordenó el coach Ricardo Contreras, que mandó a Osorio como ariete en la etapa final, ya que este jugador se convirtió en ese puesto en una de las mejores figuras de la ofensiva del cuadro ganador”.

En 1969, los Industriales repiten el triunfo, ahora de forma más holgada, por tres a cero. Curiosamente, como en otras ocasiones, se gana en la cancha, pero no en el espectáculo de la copucha, donde se hace un homenaje al profesor Pedro Quijada, quien fue el encargado del espectáculo del Liceo. En aquel año, el Industrial presentó un viaje lunar de dos chilenos, la que fue criticada por su pobre escenografía. En cambio, el Liceo presentó “Historia corta para una esperanza larga”, cuyo principal actor fue Pedro Oróstica. La Región indicaba: “Hay que hacer notar lo arriesgado que es tener un segundo actor irracional: el burro Cristiano; que pudo hacer fracasar el espectáculo, sin embargo esto no ocurrió y se portó como un caballero. Los liceanos obtuvieron un 7 muy merecido”

En 1971, se juega por primera vez de forma nocturna, por ello las denominadas copuchas fueron acompañadas de fuegos de artificio. En aquel encuentro, el Liceo Industrial ganó por dos a cero: “Un clásico que pasará a la historia, porque fue el primero que se jugó en reunión nocturna y porque Industrial, en gran demostración de capacidad colectiva e individual, derrotó al Liceo que con un elenco joven, esperaba mantener la superioridad lograda el año pasado”.

La tradición de los clásicos estudiantiles, entre Liceo e Industrial encuentra su fin hacia 1979. El excesivo tiempo que se dedicaba por las comunidades para preparar tanto las Copuchas como el propio partido de fútbol. Al parecer, fueron los grandes fundamentos, sumado a las restricciones propias de la vida en dictadura. En la memoria de la comunidad aún persisten sus recuerdos, porque de manera espontánea estos rituales fueron los que dieron forma y sentido a la comunidad local.
